Pelican 18L Black Travel Backpack - Waterproof & Durable Carry-On Backpack for Hiking, Camping & Airplane Travel

Consumers in search of a typical backpack should look elsewhere because this Pelican isn't meant for that use case. This 18L backpack is best suited for carrying around camera equipment, fragile electronics, or for CCW like an SBR or PCC -- the latter for which I will focus my review on. I say this because the backpack's front, rear, and bottom are rigid (with some slight flex) and the exterior lacks storage pockets except for two water bottle holders (I was able to snugly fit a 21 oz Hydro Flask). There's molle straps on the back for you to add storage accessories, but those are on you to procure separately.So the backpack's rigidness allows it to not only stand upright without flopping over, but prevents printing of any kind. It also keeps your SBR/PCC from digging into your back. Inside the main compartment is a larger molle system that comes with two moveable elastic straps with velcro fasteners perfect for securing your SBR. I never felt like my SBR was going to get dislodged while moving around with it strapped inside. And although the main compartment's zippers are beefy, they are relatively difficult to pull open and close due to the waterproof lining which would be a huge concern during emergency access. The main compartment also has a small, zipped and padded pocket that's appropriate for a few accessories, but there's no other built-in organization.The only other compartment is a padded laptop sleeve that fits my 14" laptop with room to spare. Pelican's product specs don't mention it, but I think it could accommodate up to a 15". I really appreciate how the sleeve doesn't extend all the way to the bottom of the bag to help with drop protection. There's also two shallow pockets in the lining that could accommodate a laptop charger, mouse, and related cables. Finally, the top carry strap and shoulder straps are comfortably padded and robust, and the latter includes loops for comms, ear bud cables, etc. The back has multiple raised areas to supposedly help with airflow but it's a solid material, not mesh.The Pelican brand and style don't necessarily scream "tactical" so it's definitely more discreet than other choices out there. Unfortunately the zippers are cumbersome to quickly open/close, and the backpack itself isn't really great for storage and organization for students or the typical EDC crowd.
